Big Rain Flods and Avalanches in La Grave

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

It has been raining the last two weeks in La Grave and a huge avalanche came down from the Tabuche glacier all the way to the botom of the valley. It went over the river and made a damm. Also the Enfetchores had a huge avalanche that unfortunate took a big part of the glacier with it and left a big piece of slab rock… The road to Grenoble and to Briancon have been close when the rain storms have had it’s epic. However it seams that it has snowed a lot above 3000 meter so hopefully the glacier girose has got more mass balance. Pelle

The lift is closed for the season…

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Dear Skier… The lift closed today ! The end of the season skiing has just been so incredible and fantastic. Last week we (me and Ayse) skied the Pan de Rideau, did a great ski touring to Combeynot and Col du Replat to La Berarde. La Grave was the host for the international guide meeting UIAGM. More then 600 guides came to visit for the meeting that also included ski touring to La Berard and a ski descent to St Christophe. Yesterday’s event was a giant slalom race on the glacier continuing with and a big party that lasted to early morning. It was very well organized of the local village people in La Grave and St Christophe and it was a great succes with great atmophere meeeting new friends and guides from all over the world… (Pic nr1) This was my first time skiing gates in La Grave after more then 18 years of skiing the massif of La Meije. (Pic nr 2) This is Matt Farmer carving his first turn ever skiing through gates(!)
